Razz poker is the fancier name for 7 Card Stud Low Poker. In this game, the player with the worst hand is the winner. Although these games are popular, 7 Card Stud Low is not exciting. In Razz poker, the player holding the face-up card with the highest value on 3rd street will be the first to place the bring-in bet. However, in the following rounds, betting starts from lowest face-up card. A notable difference in this game is that – when a player pairs a doorcard, he cannot opt for a double bet. This is a contrast to a standard 7 Card Stud game. At the showdown, the hand with the lowest value is the winner. Aces in this game are low, while flushes and straights are not counted. The best hand in this game is A2345. So, you would have no difficulty finding out which card has the lowest value.

In Razz poker, players have to be very patient. You need to play tight, but still grab an opportunity of an ante steal if it shows up. Good starting hands in Razz include three cards between Ace and 5. A23 is the best starting hand in Razz. However, all cards between Ace and 5 make good bets and raises on 3rd street. When you have a three card starting hand with cards between Ace and 6, the hand is good and you need to play aggressively. If you wish to see 4th Street, you would want a hand with three cards of 7 and lower. You can call a couple of bets for the same. A 3-card eight can be a medium hand. However, if you play the hand constantly, you might lose a lot of money.

The most important strategy in Razz revolves around opponents’ upcards. You must look to get an idea of your hand strength compared to that of your opponents by looking at their upcards. In case you hold three cards to a nine low, you have the best hand on 3rd street unless there are other upcards lower than 9. You can bet and raise confidently with this hand and ensure that you don’t take your eye off your opponents’ porch.
